Martin Brodeur Postgame:
“We’re in the middle of the pack. We’ve struggled to win games and we just have to get to that level and I truly believe we’re capable of doing that.”

Pete DeBoer Postgame:
“We worked hard tonight. The guys for the most part have worked hard on a nightly basis the first half of the year. We’re not exactly where we want to be. We’re doing some good things. We’ll take a deep breath here and then get ready for the sprint to the finish line.”

Breaking News: Devils’ Financial Woes Could Lead To Parise’s Departure

The Fourth Period is reporting that the NHL may have to advance the Devils $20 million to be able to pay the payroll for the rest of season. One of the biggest contracts on the team is soon to be free agent Zach Parise.

Now it is already suspect that Parise may not be back with the team next season but it seems like the Devils may not be able to afford him for the rest of the season. So it may seem that the Devils might have to trade Parise for draft picks to ease up on some one the payroll.

This is troubling news for the Devils because there is no doubt that Zach Parise will bring in revenue next season should he resign but could really hurt the team off the ice should he depart. Definitely give this a read.

Read: ESPN Power Rankings Week 17

ESPN has posted their weekly power rankings. The Devils are ranked 14th despite losing two straight to the Bruins and Flyers. There is one more game for the Devils before the All Star break against the Sabres tomorrow. If the Devils can notch a victory against the Sabres and then rest going into the break there should be no reason why the Devils can’t come out of the break and make an even more serious playoff push to advance in the standings.

Final: Flyers 4 Devils 1

Scoring Summary:
First Period- None
Second Period- Read (15) and Hartnell (21) and Ponikarovsky (8)
Third Period- Hartnell (22) and Simmonds (13)

Next Game: 1/24 vs Buffalo Sabres 7:00 pm.

Ilya Kovalchuk Postgame:
“All the shots were from the outside and no screen. I can play goal and save them. It’s not really tough for a goalie, especially a guy like Bryzgalov.”

Pete DeBoer Postgame:
“It’s frustrating. You want to send a message. Two teams ahead of us in the standing. There’s an opportunity to really take a step. We didn’t. But there’s a lot of hockey left to play and the next time get a chance at these guys, we’ve got to figure out how to bridge that gap.”

Team Stats:
Devils and Flyers tied in faceoffs 29-29
Devils outshot the Flyers 31-20
Devils went 0 for 6 on the power play.
Devils outhit the Flyers 21-19

Breaking News: Devils Acquire Alexi Ponikarovsky From Hurricanes

The Devils acquired Alexi Ponikarosky for prospect Joe Sova and a 4th round pick in this year’s draft. He will be in the lineup this afternoon when the Devils play the Philadelphia Flyers. Alexi will play on the 3rd line with Jacob Josefson and David Clarkson. To make room for him on the roster the Devils have sent Mattias Tedenby down to Albany.

I think this is a great trade for the Devils and hopefully will give the Devils 3 solid lines that can score on a consistent basis. Ponikarovsky is a great depth player whose contract expires at the end of this season. If things workout for him in New Jersey hopefully he’ll resign again.

Final: Bruins 4 Devils 1

Scoring Summary:
First Period- Sykora (12)
Second Period- None
Third Period- Ference (3) and Horton (17) and Campbell (5) and Kelly (14)

Next Game: 1/21 vs Philadelphia Flyers 1:00 pm.

Martin Brodeur Postgame:
“I think when we got scored on, everything fell apart for us. It’s a little mental block, I guess. We’ve got to be happy about the way we competed. I thought we competed real well. We were one bounce away. We hit the crossbar there just before they scored and a 2-0 makes a big difference. But we didn’t get that bounce.”

Pete DeBoer Postgame:
“We did a lot of things right. Again, they’re the Stanley Cup champs for a reason. I thought we had some opportunities in the second period to extend the lead. I thought we played a real good period. We didn’t do that. In the third, the referees got involved and they capitalized on their chances.”

Team Stats:
Bruins outdrew the Devils 35-29
Devils outshot the Bruins 31-25
Devils went 0 for 1 on the power play.
Bruins outhit the Devils 17-14
