Josh Kosman writes in the New York Post that Devils owner Jeff Vanderbeek is still looking for investors to purchase a majority stake in the team.
The talks, coming three weeks after the 55-year old former Wall Street executive seemed close to inking a deal with an investor to save the team, are leading some in the financial world to believe the deal has fallen apart.
Vanderbeek is facing an August 14 deadline to get the Devils’ financing in order, but according to reports, putting a new deal in just a month will be hard.
The Devils owe creditors $80 million and without an investor, Vanderbeek risks having the NHL push him aside and taking control of the franchise.

Parise signed a 13-year contract worth $98 million with the Wild.
According to Rimer, the Flyers offered the most money; $105 million dollars.
According to Tom Gulitti of Fire and Ice, Devils GM Lou Lamoriello expects Pete DeBoer’s coaching staff to be completed by the end of the week.
Devils’ coaching staff was left in a big hole after Adam Oates left for the Capitals and Larry Robinson became an assistant with the Sharks.
Lamoriello told Gulitti, “we’ll see” when asked if Sergei Brylin was a candidate for assistant coach.
The Devils opened their development camp today with two groups practicing separately in the morning and a scrimmage in the afternoon.
According to Tom Gulitti of Fire and Ice, Albany head coach Rick Kowalsky was running the camp with Scott Stevens, Sergei Brylin, Chris Terreri and Jacques Caron helping out.
Gulitti notes that head coach Pete DeBoer and assistant Dave Barr were not present.
The scrimmage was scoreless after two periods (they only played two periods). After a scoreless five-minute overtime, the game went into a shootout with Reece Scarlett (6th round pick in the 2011 draft) scoring the only goal in 4th round to wit it for the white team, reported Gulitti.
Here are the line combinations for each team during today’s scrimmage, per Gulitti.

Devils GM Lou Lamoriello told Tom Gulitti of Fire and Ice that Adam Larsson, Mattias Tedenby and Alexander Urbom will not be attending the team’s development camp because of the length of the 2011-12 season.
Larsson was traveling with the Devils throughout the playoffs, while Tedenby and Urbom were skating with the team’s AHL players.
Lamoriello told Gulitti, “It was too long of a year for those kids. Anyone who has to come that distance, we’re not going to bring them over for four, five days. But, anybody local (in North America) that was here, they will come.”
Lamoriello did confirm to Gulitti that defenseman Jon Merrill is still expected to attend the camp.
Development camp begins Monday, June 16.
At ESPN.com, Scott Burnisde takes a look at the winners and losers through the first part of July.
Burnisde lists the Devils in the “Holes To Fill” category, which easily means as the losers of the summer.
Burnside writes,
No one should ever sell president and GM Lou Lamoriello short, and he did keep the Devils from falling into complete chaos by re-signing netminder Martin Brodeur to a two-year deal and Bryce Salvador, who was a rock throughout the Devils’ run to the 2012 Stanley Cup finals.
Burnside also notes that the Devils need to find a way to replace Parise’s point production and leadership, which wont be easy.
