How Important is Devils’ Fourth Line?

If you combine Steve Bernier, Ryan Carter, and Stephen Gionta’s total points from the regular season, you’ll get 15. That is 15 points in 98 games combined between the three players.

Now, when the season matters the most,  the three players have combined for 7 points in 18 playoff games.

In Game 1, Ryan Carter scored an unassisted game-winning goal which helped the Devils to a 3-2 win.  In Game 3, despite blowing a 3-0 lead, Stephen Gionta scored a goal, with a helper from Bernier. In Game 4, the Devils beat up the Panthers 4-0, and Bernier helped in on the score sheet. His partner Gionta helped with a nice assist on the play. Now, in Game 6, Bernier scored the first goal, with an assist from Carter.

The Devils’ fourth liners spend 25:02 on the ice in Game 6 (including power play, penalty kill and when the three played some parts of the game on different lines).
