Pete DeBoer said this morning at practice that everyone is healthy (enough), although some players needed a maintenance day Wednesday. As for whether he expected a full house in the room for Friday’s game against the Capitals, DeBoer said he expects everyone to be available.
“Obviously it’s management this time of year, but nothing serious,” DeBoer said of the team’s health status.
Corey GriffinThere were a few veteran players absent from Wednesday’s optional practice, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone. Today and tomorrow represents the team’s last two-day break until the middle of February, so it’s understandable some player would want to get away. Truth be told, with almost the same team as last year and not a lot of new schemes to implement, I’d expect a lot of “optional” practice sessions this season. Obviously, things will change if the Devils suddenly stop forechecking or go in the tank, but DeBoer has as good of a hold on his team as any coach in the league, so I wouldn’t expect things to get away from him.
