Injury Report: Dainius Zubrus Sits Out Practice

After missing his first game in quite a while, Dainius Zubrus missed Friday’s full practice. No word yet from Pete DeBoer on his status this weekend’s home and home with the Penguins, but Stefan Matteau again skated on the first line at left wing in his place.

More as I know it…

UPDATE: Definitely not Zubrus on Saturday against the Pens, per DeBoer.

What to make of this? Is Zubrus’ injury more serious than originally thought? Possibly, although just as possible is the Devils being extra careful with an older veteran in the first half of a back-to-back set. The important thing is it likely allows Stefan Matteau another game in the Devils’ lineup and, although I expect he’ll be AHL bound before long, any NHL experience is good for the kid. Last night, Matteau played arguably his best game of the season and I’ll be very interested to see if he can do it again Saturday against a far more impressive team in Pittsburgh. As for Zubrus, I would guess the Devils may sit him again Sunday just to make sure he’s 100 percent before returning — especially if they win Saturday.
