Travis Zajac and Jacob Josefon both skipped practice Monday, but both are expected to play Tuesday against the Flyers.
According to Pete DeBoer, Zajac “tweaked something” against the Islanders on Saturday, which surely gives Devils fans fright. The words “tweaked” and Zajac make fans worry about the left Achilles injury that sidelined him for most of last season, but DeBoer wants to allay your fears.
“Nothing near there,” DeBoer said.
Josefson has been nursing a sore foot for being hit with a shot during practice with Albany before the lockout ended. The Devils have been playing it safe with Josefson since the start of camp and DeBoer said Josefson’s foot has been improving.
“They both could have skated today,” DeBoer said.
Corey GriffinZajac and Josefson were two of the best players on the ice Saturday, so it’s good they’ll both be in the lineup Tuesday. Every divisional game is crucial in this shortened schedule and it would be a nice boost for the Devils to get off to a 2-0 start. It’s also soothing for Devils fans to find out Zajac’s injury isn’t related to last season’s Achilles ailment. Look for him to match up against Claude Giroux and the Flyers’ top line Tuesday, which should be an exciting matchup to watch.
