Ratings down for Devils-Rangers opener, but not in NY area

Game 1 of the Devils-Rangers Eastern Conference final drew 1.285 million viewers on NBC Sports Network Monday night, writes Puck The Media.

The numbers are down 17% from Bruins/Lightning Game 1 o on a Saturday night last year (1.541M), and down 13% from Canadiens/Flyers Game 1 on a Sunday night in 2010 (1.481M). The game was also down 23% from Hurricanes/Penguins Game 1 in 2009 (1.660M).

However, ratings in the New York area broke this year’s records.

Game 1 of the Devils/Rangers Eastern Conference Final series drew a huge 6.2 local rating in New York, the highest number for any Stanley Cup broadcast in the market so far this post-season.  It beats out Game 7 of the Rangers-Senators first round series (a 5.7) on MSG for the top spot.
