The Devils signed tough-guy Krys Barch today and according to his agent, Scott Norton, the Devils could use him on the fourth line, writes Andrew Gross on Fire and Ice.
Norton said Devils president Lou Lamoriello indicated to him that Barch could fit in on the fourth line as one or more of the Devils’ valuable fourth-liners during the postseason run – Stephen Gionta, Steve Bernier and Ryan Carter – could vie for a spot on the third line.
If the Devils don’t find a replacement for Zach Parise, or sign another winger, then, Pete DeBoer will need to move up Steve Bernier or Ryan Carter to the third line. From what Lou Lamoriello told Scott Norton, it looks like the Devils don’t plan on bringing in another winger. The most likely plan is re-signing Petr Sykora and having him play on the third line.
