Martin Brodeur Postgame:
“It’s kind of nice when Kovy gets in there and scores the first goal. It kind of goes into my hands to make a save and after that it’s a really good chance for us to win. It’s definitely nice to have that luxury of him scoring more often than not.”

Pete DeBoer Postgame:
“It’s a win. We found a way to win a game. I don’t compare this to the Philly game. We created opportunities to score tonight. It just didn’t go in.”

Ilya Kovalchuk Postgame:
“Seventeen shots is never enough. Especially the power play was really bad tonight. We were moving the puck around, but nothing was going on. We’ve got to be a little more simple, especially on that four minute. We tried to be a way too fancy on the blue line and we turned the puck over every time.”

Pete DeBoer Postgame:
“We knew there would be some push back by them tonight after beating them the other night in New Jersey. The bottom line was they got to the areas tonight around the net that we didn’t get to. They got rewarded with a couple of goals and we didn’t get near the net enough.”

“But it was fun. I think we showed a lot of character staying in it. For a while there it felt like we wouldn’t be able to penetrate. Everything we tried was either getting swallowed by him or was blocked by the defensemen in front.”

Pete DeBoer Postgame:
“He gave us a chance. He was our best player tonight. a couple of breakaways and some point blank opportunities. He’s got one of the toughest jobs in hockey coming in cold like he does and following Marty all the time and he continues to get the job done for us. He’s a valuable part of our team.”

David Clarkson Postgame:
“One of my teammates get hit the wrong way, I’m going to go out there and do something about it.”

Pete DeBoer Postgame:
“Clarkie, that’s his job and he did what he’s supposed to do there. I thought it was interference at the least, but I got an explanation from the ref and that’s all you can ask for. But that’s what teammates do for each other. Clarkie did the right thing there and it was the right message.”

Team Stats:
Canadiens outdrew the Devils 26-22
Devils outshot the Canadiens 25-22
Devils went 0 for 0 on the power play.
Canadiens outhit the Devils 25-12

Player Stats:

Another great overall effort for the New Jersey Devils. Martin Brodeur played well but the injured defense stepped up and didn’t have to rely on Brodeur too much. The Devils forecheck also gave help to the defense and Brodeur. The Devils can play like they did today against the Toronto Maple Leafs, they’ll be able to keep rein on the Maple Leafs offense.

Player Stats:

The Devils were able to play extremely well when they needed to against a very hot Ducks team. The penalty kill was really strong and aggressive, giving the Ducks nothing on the power play. Brodeur was playing out of his mind and kept the Devils in the game. The only thing that worried me was the fact that the Devils couldn’t convert on some nice chances but a great overall effort. Alexei Ponikarovsky is fitting in very well, I really want to see him in a Devils’ uniform next season.

Final: Devils 4 Sabres 1

First Period- Kovalchuk (23)
Second Period- Pominville (21)
Third Period- Sykora (13) and Kovalchuk (24) and Kovalchuk (25)

Next Game: 2/16 vs Anaheim Ducks 7:00 pm.

Ilya Kovalchuk Postgame:
“Zach has an empty-net breakaway and I was thinking he was going to put it in. But that says a lot about his leadership and that’s what we were talking about to get me the third one right before that. He said, ‘Even if I get an empty-net breakaway, I will spin and try to find you’ and he did, so it’s nice.”

Pete DeBoer Postgame:
“It’s a close-knit group. It’s a really unselfish group. There’s not a guy in that room that would shoot a puck in an empty net if he could pass it to somebody else. That’s kind of the mentality they have and it’s nice when you see that.”

Team Stats:
Devils outdrew the Sabres 27-26
Devils outshot the Sabres 31-30

Team Stats:
Devils outdrew the Panthers 29-23
Devils outshot the Panthers 27-20
Devils went 0 for 1 on the power play.
Devils outhit the Panthers 21-7

Player Stats:

This was a tough one to watch. The Devils looked flat and out of sync. They were playing very well for the first 15 minutes but then once they gave up the Panther’s first goal on the power play they just looked lost. Everyone was flat footed and was outworked by Panthers. Both goals were not Brodeur’s fault at all. The best thing for them to do is is just forget this game ever happened and bring back the energy against Buffalo on the road.

Next Game: 2/9 vs St. Louis Blues 7:00 pm.

Zach Parise Postgame:
“You always get the sense when Marty and Lundqvist play each other that you can see that they want to outdo each other and 99 times out of 100 it’s a great goaltending battle and it was again tonight. Marty was great. He made huge saves and really got us that win with a shutout.”

Martin Brodeur Postgame:
“I made the save and after that it was kind of a barrage of people and then I saw the puck behind me. I was like, ‘All right.’ I saw right away the referee kind of called it off. We saw on the video it was kind of obvious. He takes both of his hands and he hits my shoulder, kind of pushes me back and impairs me to make a save.”
